Redbull X-Alps 2013
After a few months of preparations for the race the real adventure started in Salzburg. It took us 10 days and 10 hours to reach Monaco, finishing on the 7th place overall.
Being part of the ITA1 team with Aaron and Renca was another valuable life experience for me. I still remember the evening when Aaron Skyped me to ask, if I was interested to join his team. I did not hesitate long and said “yes”! More or less I had to cancel most of my plans for spring and early summer and an important training phase started.
The race itself is very intense both physically as well as mentally. Very little sleep, around 3-4 hours a day for me, many emotional ups and downs, lots of strategical planning as well as daily hike and fly with Aaron could sum it up in one sentence. We questioned the sanity of the race many times during the long and tiring days, but after arriving in Monaco we realized we do want to do it again next time. We did fight very hard to reach the podium and during some stages of the race it seemed it achievable. After couple of unlucky events and some mistakes we got in the finish 7th realising that it felt as good as being first. To be able to arrive in Monaco after 1000+ air-distance kilometers is anyways the best reward!
